I’m Christine Dokko, a College Consultant at College Matters. I bring the perspective of both a former admissions professional and a parent of two college students. I believe the college application process should be a positive time of self‑discovery rather than just a source of stress.
My priority is to guide students through a clear, individualized process that helps them put their best foot forward, while reducing anxiety for the whole family. To keep up with a field that’s changing at an incredible pace, I frequently visit colleges, take part in webinars and professional discussion groups, and read as much as I can. Aside from helping students end up with college choices that fit them well, my goal is for students to grow in confidence and get to know themselves better, setting them up for success in college and beyond.
My Approach
I began my career as a trusts and estates attorney in New York City, then eventually transitioned into college admissions, spending several years as an admissions reader for highly selective institutions. I switched to consulting because I truly enjoy working with teens during this important stage and helping them tell their unique stories through their applications.

I serve as a volunteer academic advisor, college essay coach, and board member for Guilford A Better Chance and have worked with multiple non-profits that focus on college access and mentorship of first-gen and limited-income students. I’m also a strong supporter of arts education, being a parent of a professional musician, and have served on the boards of arts-related organizations.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and my J.D. from New York University School of Law. I hold a certificate in college counseling from UCLA Extension and am a Wow Writing Workshop-certified essay coach. As an enthusiastic writer myself, helping students find their strong, authentic written voices is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
